How to Clean Up Commercial Flooring Surfaces in Restaurants?

Office flooring differs from the commercial flooring as the office flooring undergoes less wear and tear compared to the office floorings. These types of floors are subject to heavier foot traffic for most weekdays, especially in those companies or organisations where work goes on 24/7 to increase profit margins. In such types of ambiences, it is vital to have flooring that lasts for a long time. In bigger environments, such as warehouses, one can find commercial floors made out of reinforced concrete that can handle high volume of traffic as well as the weight of loads that are displaced, moved or stored.

Cleaning the high traffic of foot, loading and unloading of machineries and products demands stronger and durable flooring. Busy floorings require frequent and better methods of cleaning. However, with the right methods and equipment, cleaning of commercial floors can be much easier. Here is how you can clean up commercial flooring surfaces in restaurants.

Wipe and clean:

  1. Wipe all counters down and clear all the regular debris and crumbs.

  2. When you clean up any kitchen space, or for that matter any type of room, it is a good idea that you begin from the top so that there is no re-soiling of floors after cleaning up the same.

  3. If your restaurant has mats, ask the in charge to pick them all up from the kitchen. Clean those up and have them rolled in a designated space for storage which is out of the way.

Sweep and clean:

Sweep the surface of the commercial flooring as well as the space beneath storage stations and refrigerators. It is important that you be thorough. In case there is any section of flooring that is exposed, sweep it as well. Any remaining debris may compromise the steps of scrubbing and mopping.

Soak the floor:

Fill water into your mop bucket and pour the cleaning solution used by your restaurant. Carefully go through all the instructions and get the most effective and safest mixture. If you use excessive water, the floors may require to be cleaned with solution that may be needed to be repeated once again. A high amount of the solution can lead to health risks. Soak your restaurant commercial flooring, but avoid squeezing out the solution of the head.

Scrub the floors:

Go scrubbing your commercial flooring, with a deck brush preferably. It can be perfect for rigid stains and can also pick up the dirt and debris your mop might have ended up missing. In case of grooves or ridges in the floor, use a grout brush to scrub spots that are tough to reach.

Start mopping:

  1. Dip your mop into the solution and then thoroughly squeeze it.

  2. Start to mop the water.

  3. Frequently dip it, so as to sanitise your mop head as much as you can.

  4. Begin from the room-end that is most distant from the exit, to prevent mopping into a corner. In case more foot traffic cannot be avoided, remember place a “Wet Floor” sign.

Clean the floor:

Regularly clean your sealed restaurant concrete commercial flooring. It can be as convenient as regular mopping and sweeping. Keep debris, dirt and dust off the floor, particularly in case it is a traffic-prone zone and might prolong the lifespan of the floor as well as prevent it from getting marked or scratched. Based on your extent of usage of concrete floor, it is a good idea to strip and wax it as frequently as each month, and not more than a span of 6 months should pass in between. When the wax is removed, the stains are removed along with the same and you can get a bright, clean floor again.
