What Is White Wine Made From?

Typically, white wine is made from the flesh of white or black grapes. In case the black grape variety is used, the flesh has to be white in colour. If the flesh of that grape is coloured, that cannot be used in the making of white wine. After harvesting the grapes, they are pressed and only the juice from them is extracted. This juice is called the wort. Then the wort is stored in tanks where it is fermented with the action of yeast present on the grapes. Actually, the sugar is changed into alcohol.

The Importance of Harvesting In Wine Making:

Harvesting is the most important part of the manufacturing of white wine. How mature the grapes should be, depends on the type of wine that is made from them. With sweet wine, sugar is of prime importance so it needs to be fully mature. When you make dry white wine, sugar is not the main component so it is harvested technically speaking eight days before full maturity. At this stage, the connection between sugar and acid is just optimal. If the grapes are low on acidity, then they will lose their crispness and flavour which is not a characteristic of white wine.
