What Are The Different Tiling Areas In A Building Suggested To A Client?

Tiles are coverings that are used as a building material. They cover floors, ceilings, walls, and roofs. They can be made up of various metals, stones like marble, slate, lightweight materials like mineral wool, glass, and ceramic. When tiling is done on the roof, it is basically baked clay used to form the structure. Currently, the most famoustiling is done by porcelain or by glass because of its efficiency and the way of production. As mentioned earlier that the tiles are broadly used to design roofs, floors, and ceilings. So let’s have a look at them in detail below.

Tiling on roofs:

This type of tiling is done not to allow rainwater to enter the interior of the building. These are made up of clay, plastic, or in the modern days, it is switched to concrete with waterproof glaze on it. A framework of the roof is constructed, and then these tiles are hung from it, fixed with nails. There are two parallel rows of tiling which overlap each other. This is done due to two reasons.

  1. First to exclude the entrance of the rainwater

  2. Second to hide the nails on the row above the first one

As every building has some planes or pitches at the corner or middle, to hide them, we could also use the tiling process. These are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. Some of them are:

  1. The very simple flat tiles

  2. The S-shaped tiling helps to interlock the adjacent tiles

  3. Concave and convex curve tiles

  4. Barrel tiles which are semi-cylindrical in shape

Tiling on floors:

The recent technologies have made it possible to make floors out of glass tiles. Usually, we find tiles on the floor are made up of ceramics or marble. These types of tiles are either painted or glazed. When tiling is done on the floor, then it leaves a slight gap in between each tile. To fill that gap, we could use floor grout or mortar. Floors can also be looking beautiful if we could use mosaic tiles in different patterns. These types of tiles have uniform length and width. Some tiles could be requiring more planning to be uniform and settle down with the pattern. The areas that are prone to a lot of circulation on the floors make it better to use hard stones for the flooring.

On, On the other hand, soft stones like limestone are no suitable for such areas. The ceramic tiles on the floor get a beautiful glaze on them, so they should be protected from scratches or else they will get worn out. Sometimes we even get to see that the stone tiles may tend to break during shipment due to heavy weight.

Tiling on ceilings

In the interior of a building, the tiling is done on the ceiling has to be lightweight to take the load efficiently. A steel grid is made up, and then, depending upon the client’s demand, the tiling is done. These tiles provide insulation of heat, absorption of the sound, protection from fire, and improvising the air quality. When a false ceiling is done, we usually have to access the pipes for plumbing and electrical wires above the ceiling, so these tiles offer an advantage for the designers. The materials involve tin, recycled papers, wool, and plastic. Tiles should be free from moisture, or else they would get damaged.

Conclusion:

Tiling is a method that adds more beauty to the interiors of the building. It is very important to choose sustainable tiling materials so that it does not create problem in the environment. The tiles designed should be assembled properly and systematically. It should not cause difficulty to the client.
